Universities of Scotland – under the new funding deal – ordered to widen up access Universities of Scotland could be faced penalties (including financial penalties) if they fail to follow any individual agreement with the Scottish Funding Council

In the endeavour to fill up the funding difference between Scottish and English institutions, universities of Scotland are going to be questionable by the government of Scotland for improving their accesses and performances under a new designed budget deal.
If the Universities will fail to follow any individual agreement like widen up of access, improvement in flexible learning, students’ employability – they could face penalties including financial penalties too.
In exchange, the cut of grants in teaching sector of 10.90% imposed in the last academic year will be withdrawn for the next academic year 2012-2013 and also planned to make more investments in research & development, science & scientific researches, and create opportunities to the students in the remote communities of Scotland. In the academic year 2012-2013, Scotland’s nineteen higher education centers are to be received 1.02 billion pound. As per assumption, approximately 1,500 more student places will be created, the major of which will be from the students in the Highlands and Islands.
As per Mark Batho who is the chief executive in the Scottish Funding Council, just to closing the difference is not the main objective.
As per Michael Russell, education secretary of Scotland, this funding package was designed to carry on smoothly the government\'s planning for education of the post-sixteen.
This deal also welcomed by the officials of the university and they also said that in the present economic scenario, the conditions attached with this were expected to them.
As per a spokesperson for the umbrella group Universities Scotland, though it must be a different way of working but they do not see it as a huge interference. She also said that to them this is a reasonable thing in the present scenario.
As higher tuition fee in the south has been introduced, the government of Scotland has to show the way that how to fill up the funding difference in Scottish and English universities.
As per the Student leaders, this new deal reinforced Scotland\'s commitment to funding higher education from the public wallet. President of NUS Scotland said that now there are enough funds on offer to the Scotland’s Universities to put the tuition fees issue.
